Missoula, MT--Idaho State gave up a goal in the first period and another in the second to take a 2-1 loss at Montana Friday afternoon at South Campus Stadium in Missoula, Montana.
The loss drops Idaho State to 3-10-1 overall, 0-2-1 in Big Sky play. Montana improves to 3-11-1 overall, 1-3-1 in league play.
"We had our opportunities and didn't capitalize on them," said ISU head coach Mark Salisbury. "We played hard enough to win and had our chances, but couldn't connect."
Montana first scored at the 15:12 mark when Lindsay Winans put in a header off a cross from teammate Lily Coble. The Griz scored again at the 70:35 mark when Winans again found the back of the net for her sixth goal of the season, giving Montana a 2-0 lead late in the contest.
Jill Christofferson led a late Bengal rally when she scored at the 88:36 mark when she found a deflected shot off the goalie. The score is Christofferson's first career goal.
Idaho State, led by sophomore Natalie Graham's three shots, tallied 11 team shots on the day, three on goal. Montana notched 12 shots, 10 on goal.
Esther Toronto led ISU in goal, tallying eight saves with two goals allowed. Sarah Braseth recorded two saves with one allowed goal for the Griz.
Idaho State continues road play on Sunday at Eastern Washington. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. mountain time.
"Eastern Washington is a must win game for us," Salisbury said. "It's a team that we know a lot about. If we give the effort that we had today we will have a great opportunity to get the win."
