Final Stats
Ogden, UT --- Joe Johnson's third field goal of the game, a 30-yarder with 2:56 left was the back-breaking late score, as Idaho State's comeback fell short and their winless streak in Ogden reached 21 years with a 30-21 loss to the Wildcats on Saturday, a loss that eliminated the Bengals from any conference title aspirations.
Idaho State made a game of it in the fourth quarter with a 63-yard touchdown pass from Matt Hagler to Akilah Lacey with 7:11 left, but WSU on third-and-10 from their 40, completed a 40-yard pass from Ian Pizzaro to Lynzell Jackson, and WSU hit their field goal four plays later. The conversion followed a third-and-15 conversion just three plays earlier in the drive. Pizarro threw three touchdowns and was the first opposing quarterback to throw for 300 yards against ISU this season, throwing for 323.
Idaho State took a short lived 7-3 lead on a 19-yard option run by Josh Barnett on the first play of the second quarter, but Weber State answered right back with a 94-yard drive, capped by a 9-yard touchdown pass to B.A. Harrell.
Down 13-7 late in the first half, the Bengals punted the ball back to the Wildcats and WSU took over with 28 seconds left on their own 28-yard line. The Wildcats got a long catch to Wiley King off a ricochet, and then with one second left in the half from the ISU 47, Pizzaro threw a Hail Mary that was answered as King beat two defenders for a 20-7 halftime lead.
Idaho State took the third quarter opening kickoff and went 71 yards in 10 plays, capped by a Matt Hagler touchdown pass to Shedrack Okoebor of 15 yards. Weber State however answered again with a second touchdown catch from King.
NOTES: Eddie Thompson threw an incomplete deep pass to Akliah Lacey that was just out of his reach in the first quarter ...
