Pocatello, ID -- Idaho State's volleyball team struggled through their second loss of this weekend to finish 0-3 to Sacramento State Saturday, October 8 at Sacramento State University.
With the absence of Felice Yokopis and Zoe Beltz, the Bengals struggled losing 17-30, 18-30, and 19-30. Karli Maughan led the team in both kills and blocks with eight and five.
"Karli really stepped it up and ended up being our block and kills leader tonight," said Coach Mike Welch. "She really played a big role and the weekend situation allowed her a chance to step up and make an impact."
Nikki Havens recorded the team high in digs with 11 while Bri Beal added nine. Havens also added two service aces and seven kills to the Bengals total 28. Lisa Bushman recorded 20 set assists with Amanda Bevens adding five.
"We only had Nikki and Lisa playing today who had a lot of experience playing and they have been really leading the freshmen and making big impacts as skill players and getting the team emotionally high," said Welch.
With the loss the Bengals move to 8-11 and 2-3 in the Big Sky while Sacramento State improves to 13-7 overall and 5-1 in the Big Sky.
"We're disappointed with the loss, but it's still early in Big Sky play," said Welch. "This whole weekend we were down two starters with only one middle blocker able to play. We had to ask people to step outside of their boxes and take on new roles and I thought we did a really good job of that."
The Bengals will return home next weekend taking on Montana Friday, October 14 and Montana State Saturday, October 15.
