Bozeman, MT--Despite a pair of double-double efforts from Felice Yocopis and Nikki Havens, Idaho State dropped a 3-1 decision Friday night to Montana State at Shroyer Gym in Bozeman. Even with the loss, Idaho State's tournament hopes are still alive as the team travels to take on Montana Saturday night in Missoula. A win over the Griz would give ISU the sixth and final spot in next week's Big Sky Tournament. A loss would keep the Bengals out of the tournament.
The Bengals came out strong with a 30-23 win in game one. The team then dropped three-straight, 30-23, 30-16, and 13-16 to take the loss. Idaho State falls to 10-17 overall, 4-9 in Big Sky play. Montana State improves to 13-14 overall, 6-7 in league play.
Idaho State's Big Sky Tournament hopes now come down to Saturday night's match against Montana. A win over Montana will give the Bengals the sixth and final spot in next week's tournament. An Idaho State loss would give either Montana or Northern Arizona the final spot.
Yocopis led the Bengals with a 17-dig, 21-dig double-double effort. The senior outside hitter recorded 67 attacks with just five errors on the night. Havens also recorded a double-double with 15 kills and 15 digs.
Amanda Bevens led the Bengal offense with a team-high 42 assists, while Katie Hurst helped ISU on the defensive side of the net with 15 digs. Jessica Gurney also helped the defensive effort with a team-high six blocks.
As a team, Idaho State collected 50 kills while hitting .118 at the net. Montana State tallied 66 kills on a .243 attack percentage.
Kim Stonehouse led MSU with 14 digs. The Bobcats had four players reach double-digit kills.
