Final Stats
Pocatello, ID --- Two guys who watched from the bench last year, Tim Henry and David Schroeder, both scored 20 points, combining for that total on 14-of-20 shooting as Idaho State rolled to an 88-64 exhibition victory over Montana Tech. The Bengals, who finish the exhibition season 2-0, head to Lawrence, Kansas to take on the Jayhawks on Friday night at 6:00 pm Mountain Time.
The Bengals shot .519 in the opening half, and led by 17 with 6:10 left after a Kasey Winter's layup made it 35-17, but Montana Tech hit 8-of-11 threes in the half to stay within striking distance at 45-37.
However, the Bengals turned up the defensive pressure in the second half, as they forced Montana Tech into a .364 second-half effort with just one three pointer in pulling away. Matt Stucki's layup at the 17:31 mark put ISU's lead in double-figures for good.
Henry sat out last season after transferring from Wyoming, and Schroeder missed all but three games the last two years with knee injuries, but both looked like they hadn't skipped a beat. Henry was 7-for-11 from the field, and 3-of-4 from three-point range with three rebounds and three assists. Schroeder was even more impressive, shooting 7-for-9 from the field including a perfect 3-for-3 from the three-point line. He also added seven rebounds, four assists and three steals.
The Bengals as a team shot .554 from the field and .625 from three-point range, going 10-for-16 as the teams played with the experimental NCAA rules of a wider lane, a charge circle, and a 20' 9" three-point line, a foot further than the normal regulation length.
Slim Millien was the only other player for ISU in double-figures with 12 points, and Kyle Stevens was shutout but had 10 rebounds as ISU outrebounded Montana Tech 36-21. DC Egge led the Orediggers with 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting with five threes.
