Box Score

Pocatello, ID--Andrea Lightfoot's shot to tie the game with one second remaining in double-overtime wouldn't fall as Idaho State took a 91-89 loss to cross-state rival Boise State Friday in the team's season-opener.

"I'm proud of the way we battled to the very end," said ISU assistant coach Gavin Peterson, who replaced head coach Jon Newlee for the night because of a death in the family. "Our players played with a lot of heart, and a winning attitude."

The loss drops the Bengals to 0-1 on the season, while BSU improves to 1-0.

Chelsey Chambers led ISU with a career-high 23 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. The double-double effort was also the first of her career. The senior forward connected on 8-of-16 shots from the field, including 5-of-8 from beyond the arc. The five threes is also a career high.

"The shots weren't falling for me around the basket, so I took my game outside," said Chambers. "I hit the first couple and started feeling it, so I kept shooting."

Chambers also connected on a three-point field goal with 25 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 77, sending the game into the first overtime. Chambers fouled out of the game with 17 second remaining in the first overtime.

"We ran a play that left me wide open in the corner and I was lucky that it went down to help send the game into overtime," Chambers said. "The most frustrating thing was fouling out. It's difficult to be on the bench and was hard not to be able to help my teammates."

Freshman Jenna Brown, playing the first official college game of her career, notched 15 points. Brown connected on 4-of-10 shots from three, while collecting four rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

Jeni Boesel recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Joanna Hixon and Danica Boyce each netted 10 points. Natalie Doma, who got in foul trouble and fouled out of the game, finished with an eight-point, nine-rebound night. Lightfoot rounded out the scoring with nine points with eight rebounds.

Nadia Begay led Boise State with a team-high 22 points. Jessica Thompson added 20 and three others reached double-figures.

As a team, Idaho State shot 35 percent from the field, 34 percent from beyond the arc, and 73 percent at the charity stripe. The Bengals held BSU to 30 percent shooting from the field. ISU also out-rebounded Boise State 59-53.

Idaho State now heads to Hawaii for the Hawaiian Airlines Rainbow Wahine Classic next week. The Bengals will open the tournament against Wisconsin on Nov. 25 at noon. The game will be broadcast live on 91.1 KISU radio. The broadcast will also be available at www.isubengals.com.
