Second Half Dooms Bengals in 35-10 Loss to #13 Cal Poly

San Luis Obispo, CA --- The third quarter did the Bengals in one last time. Cal Poly outscored ISU 14-0 in the third quarter after holding the Bengals to -9 yards of offense while gaining 152 themselves, paving the way for a 35-10 win over the Bengals at Mustang Stadium.

The loss ends ISU's season at 5-6, while #13 Cal Poly ends the season at 8-3, and must now await a decision to see if they will qualify for the I-AA playoffs. They are thought to be up for the final spot among the 16 teams. The loss also dropped the Bengals to 1-19 on the road all-time against ranked teams.

The Bengals had the lead at the half after Jaret Johnson's 38-yard field goal with four seconds left in the second quarter. That put the Bengals up 10-7 at the half, but the Bengals could not stop James Noble.

Noble scored a Cal Poly record five rushing touchdowns, including four in the second half, as he rolled up 248 yards on the ground, including (71) 177 in the second half. His 248 yards came on just 27 carries. Noble outgained ISU as a team 248-181.

Luke Sniewski started at quarterback for the Bengals, and was just 12-for-31 passing for 96 yards. The Bengals totaled just 31 yards of offense in the first 26 minutes of the second half.

NOTES: Jaret Johnson ran his streak of road field goals to 10-for-10 with his 38-yarder at the end of the first half ... Hayden Plocher recovered a squib kick that bounded off an upback with one second left in the first half ... Ken Cornist's 34-yard first half run was his longest of the season ... Francisco Anguiano started at guard for Clifton Buckway, but Buckway came in after the third series ... Sterling Mennear missed his second straight game with an injury ... Ken Cornist's 90 points this season is the fourth-most in school history, and his 15 touchdowns is the third-most. Those 15 touchdowns are seven more than any other freshman in school history ... Cornist and Josh Barnett both finished the season with more rushing yards then the entire team rushed for in 2004 ... Idaho State and Cal Poly are not scheduled to meet in 2006 ... Pago Togafau had 14 tackles, giving him 103 on the season.
