Final Stats
Pocatello, ID --- Idaho State got a second straight double-double from Slim Millien, including a career-high 13 rebounds, and Idaho State outscored Great Falls by 21 points in each half as the Bengals rolled to their first win of the season in a 106-64 victory over the Great Falls Argonauts.
Idaho State opened the game with a big lineup, starting Tim Henry at the point, and it paid immediate dividends as the Bengals raced to a 31-11 lead, and were never seriously threatened the rest of the game. The Bengals were paced early by Millien, who had eight points and seven rebounds in the first six minutes of the game, including three monsterous dunks.
The Bengals shot .500 for the game, and put up plenty of stats in defeating Great Falls (4-5) of the NAIA's Frontier Conference. Millien, who scored 23 points after opening the season with 20 at Kansas, added four blocks for the second straight game, and even dished out a career-high three assists. That is nearly half of his season total from last season, when he had seven.
Tim Henry added 17 points, and led the team with five assists and four steals. David Schroeder added 12 and Logan Kinghorn chipped in 11. Kasey Winters just missed a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds. ISU struggled at one point in the game from the line, going 10-for-20, but they finished on a 16-for-18 tear to shot .684 from the stripe and .500 from the field.
ISU dominated the smaller Argos inside, outscoring them in the paint 48-22, and outrebounding them 56-26. ISU also got a solid performance from the bench, getting 34 points after getting just three against Kansas.
"We've played two exhibitions against smaller lineups, so we should play over the top of them," said head coach Doug Oliver. Oliver also felt good about the play of his senior forward. "Slim is sustaining his defensive effort right now. He's a go-to guy, and I thought right after those two traveling calls in the first half, he slowed himself down and did a good job of finding guys and getting into a rhythm."
As a team, the Bengals also added eight blocks in limiting Great Falls to just .350 shooting from the field. Tyrone Witherspoon led the Argos with 16 points, followed by Rashaun Puryear with 13 and Todd Tomlinson with 12.
