Pocatello, ID--Despite a career-high 26 points from Chelsey Chambers, Oregon used a large run in the first half and another in the second to take down Idaho State 89-69 Thursday night at Reed Gym.
The win pushes Oregon's record to 8-1 on the season, while Idaho State drops to 4-5.
"They (Oregon) shot the ball well from outside," said ISU head coach Jon Newlee. "If they shoot the ball that well from long range, they're going to beat a lot of teams this season, including a lot of Pac-10 teams."
The Bengals held a late lead in the first half, 28-27 with just five minutes remaining in the half, but Oregon used a 16-5 run to go into halftime with a 43-33 lead.
Idaho State cut a 33-43 halftime deficit to just four points, 53-57 with 10:34 remaining in the game. The Ducks then went on a 13-2 run to take a 15-point lead, 55-70.
Chambers scored her career-high 26 points on 10-of-16 shooting, including a 2-of-4 mark from long range. The senior forward also pulled down seven rebounds, while collecting one assists, two blocks, and a steal.
"Oregon is a big, physical team," Chambers said. "But there was no reason that we couldn't have stuck around longer than we did with them. As soon as we would get close, they would go on a run. We didn't play well, and we weren't shooting the ball well. This is a team that we could have competed with."
Natalie Doma recorded her second double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Doma was 7-of-26 from the field, including 1-of-9 from beyond the arc.
Andrea Lightfoot, coming off a career-high 38 points against Idaho, tallied 11 against the Ducks. The sophomore guard was 3-of-12 from the field and 1-of-5 from long range. Lightfoot recorded seven rebounds and two steals in the effort.
The Bengals, who rank second in the nation in threes per game, connected on just 5-of-24 from outside for a 20.8 percent clip. The team shot 34.7 percent from the field on the game compared to Oregon's 48.6 percent. The Ducks were hot from long range, connecting on 11-of-21 shots from outside the arc.
Carolyn Ganes came off the OU bench to record a game-high 26 points with eight rebounds. Oregon's bench out-scored ISU 58-5. Freshman Michelle Grohs came off the bench to score all five of ISU's bench points.
ISU will look to rebound from the loss when the team hosts Montana-Western on Dec. 20. Tip-off is set for 7:05 p.m.
"I hope we get tougher from this game," Newlee said. "We need to battle more and we need to get more physical. Oregon played that tenacious defense much like Washington State did against us earlier this season. We have to learn from this and move on."
