Box Score

Cedar City, UT--Despite a career-high 10 saves from Esther Toronto and three shots on goal from Stephanie Anderson, Idaho State dropped a heart-breaking double overtime thriller 1-0 to Southern Utah at Thunderbird Field in Cedar City, Utah.

"It was a tough game for us," said ISU head coach Mark Salisbury. "We did some good things and hung in there until the very end. Our team played their hearts out."

Tied 0-0 into the second overtime, Southern Utah's Brooklyn Phillips scored her first career goal to defeat the Bengals in the 110th minute. Phillips took the shot from about 25-yards and cleared it past the reach of Toronto. With the loss, Idaho State falls to 2-5-0, while SUU ups its record to 2-1-1.

Idaho State had its opportunities in the second half with five shots, but the team was held without a shot in the two overtime periods as Southern Utah capitalized to take the win.

ISU's Ashli Kimenker was ejected from the game at the 68:38 mark after receiving a second yellow card. Kimenker will have to sit out Saturday's game at Utah State.

"Ashli getting tossed from the game hurt us a lot," Salisbury said. "She does so many things for us defensively, and her presence was missed."

Toronto's 10 saves held SUU scoreless through regulation and the first overtime. The senior keeper made a diving stop in the 11th minute on a left-footed shot by Shaley Ipson to keep SUU off the scoreboard early. SUU also had an opportunity to win the game in the first overtime on a point-blank shot by SUU's Catherin Johnson, but Toronto again made a tremendous save to keep the Thunderbirds scoreless.

On the game, Idaho State notched eight shots to Southern Utah's 16. ISU had seven shots on goal, while SUU tallied 11.

Idaho State will continue road play against Utah State on Saturday in Logan, Utah. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m. The Bengals next home game will be a Sept. 25 when the team hosts Rice.
