ISU Volleyball Wins Marathon Match 3-2 at Utah Valley State

Orem, UT--Felice Yocopis recorded a match-high 24 kills and Nikki Havens added 16 more as Idaho State defeated Utah Valley 3-2 in a marathon back-and-forth match Friday night at the Activity Center in Orem, Utah.

"I thought both teams just battled and battled tonight," said ISU head coach Mike Welch. "It was a great match for both teams and I was proud of the way our players hung in there and fought to the very end."

After losing game one 24-30, Idaho State battled back to take game two 30-22. Utah Valley then snuck away in a close game three, winning 28-30 before Idaho State forced game five with a 30-26 win in game four. The Bengals then secured the win with a 15-12 victory in the deciding game.

The win pushes ISU's record to 4-8, while Utah Valley falls to 2-5.

Yocopis recorded her 24 kills on career-high 75 attacks with just nine errors for a .200 attack percentage. She also added 17 digs, two assists, two service aces, and two blocks in the win. Havens helped with 16 kills on 59 attacks and three errors. The junior outside hitter also totaled 20 digs for her seventh double-double of the season.

Lisa Bushman notched her second double-double of the season with 17 assists and 10 digs, while Amanda Bevens fronted the team with 29 assists.

Anne Olsen led Utah Valley with 24 kills, while Jessica Endres added 21.

As a team, Idaho State recorded 80 kills on the night compared to Utah Valley's 64. The team also out-blocked the Wolverines 11 to two.

"It was a great all-around effort by the team tonight," Welch said. "Everyone came to play and everyone contributed."

Idaho State will continue tournament play at the Utah Valley Invitational tomorrow when the team takes on UC Davis at 11 a.m. and Texas A&M Corpus Christi at 5 p.m.
