Boise, ID--Despite a Kilee Quigley second half goal, Idaho State fell just short to Boise State, falling 2-1 Wednesday at the Boas Tennis and Soccer Complex in Boise.
The loss drops the Bengals to 2-7-0 overall, while Boise State improves to 5-2-1. The loss also drops Idaho State to 1-1 in Governor's Cup play. Boise State will play Idaho in the final Governor's Cup match on Oct. 23.
Trailing 2-0 late in the second period, Idaho State was fouled in the box, sending ISU's Jennifer Loo into the box for the penalty kick. Loo's shot was blocked out of bounds by BSU's keeper, giving the Bengals a corner kick. Jill Christofferson sent the corner kick into the left side of the box where Quigley found it for the score at the 78:42 mark.
"This would have been a completely different game had we played the entire game like we did the last 15 minutes," said ISU head coach Mark Salisbury. "Our team knows how important it is to play a complete 90 minute game, but we didn't do that today."
Boise State was first to get on the scoreboard when Nicole Coleman received a Molly McDonald corner kick and found the back of the net to put the Broncos up 1-0 in the 21st minute. The Broncos then scored at the 56:48 mark in the second period after Sophie Parrish sent a cross into the box that found Kristin Hall for her second goal of the season.
As a team, Idaho State put up seven shots on the day, six on goal. Boise State tallied 17 shots with seven on goal. BSU had eight corner kicks to ISU's four.
Christofferson fronted the Bengals with two shots, one on goal. Esther Toronto played all 90 minutes in goal, collecting five shots with two goals allowed.
Because ISU's game against Rice on Sept. 25 was cancelled, Idaho State now looks forward to a matchup at Air Force on Sept. 30
