Sept. 7, 2005

Box Score

Pocatello, ID--Despite a 13 kill, 12 dig night from Felice Yocopis, Idaho State fell short 3-0 to cross-state rival and 28th-ranked Brigham Young in front of a season-high 645 fans Wednesday night at Reed Gym.

The Bengals kept it close in each game, falling 25-30, 26-30, and 24-30. The loss drops Idaho State to 2-4 on the season, while Brigham Young ups its record to a perfect 4-0.

"The good thing is that we know we can play with this caliber of a team," said ISU head coach Mike Welch. "When we stuck to our game play, things worked really well, but when we didn't, we gave up a couple of points here and there. Those points add up really quick in a close match like this."

Yocopis picked up her sixth double-double in as many matches with 13 kills and 12 digs. The senior outside hitter tallied 40 attacks with seven errors. She also recorded three assists and three blocks. Nikki Havens notched her fourth 10-plus kill match of the season with 10 kills on 35 attacks.

Amanda Bevens led the offensive attack with a team-high 27 assists, while Bri Beal kept the ball off the floor with an 11-dig effort.

The Bengals lost the dig battle for the first time this season, collecting 47 digs to BYU's 54.

"We've talked about getting 20 or more digs in every match this season. It's been a goal of ours, and for the first time this season we lost the dig battle. We just missed some assignments tonight and it hurt us."

Chelsea Goodman led the Cougar attack with a match-high 16 kills, while Erica Lott added 15. Lauren Evans led BYU with 46 assists, and 11 digs.

The Bengals now head out for three matches at the Denver Invitational against Texas Christian, Denver, and Jacksonville. ISU will start Invitational play on Sept. 9 against TCU.
