Orem, UT--Andrea Lightfoot and Natalie Doma combined for 50 points but it wasn't enough as Idaho State dropped an 83-74 decision to Utah Valley State Thursday night at the McKay Center in Orem, Utah.
The loss is the third-straight for the Bengals, who fall to 5-8. Utah Valley improves to 5-9, surpassing its win total of four games last season. The three-game losing streak matches ISU's longest of the season as the team opened the season at 0-3.
Idaho State rallied from a 10-point deficit in the first half, capped by a Lightfoot full-court driving lay-up at the buzzer to take a 39-37 halftime advantage. Down 11 points with 5:02 left in the game, Idaho State closed the gap to cut the lead to just four points, 78-74, with 0:39 left to play. Utah Valley then finished the game on a 5-0 run to secure the win.
Lightfoot led all scores with 27 points on 8-of-17 shooting. The sophomore guard also connected on 3-of-9 shots from beyond the arc, and 8-of-9 from the free throw line. Doma helped with 23 points, connecting on an impressive 11-of-14 shots from the field. She also collected seven rebounds and a block in the effort.
Chelsey Chambers helped the Bengals with 16 points and six rebounds. Chambers hit four 3-point field goals in the game, and finished 6-of-13 from the field.
Idaho State continues to struggle on the boards as Utah Valley won the rebound battle 46-21. The Wolverines collected 14 offensive rebounds to ISU's two.
The Bengals shot the ball well from the floor, connecting on 48.3 percent of their shots, while Utah Valley hit on 49.2 percent. ISU, which averages 8.5 three-point field goals a game, recorded a 7-of-26 mark from long range, including a 6-of-18 clip from beyond the arc in the second half.
Idaho State travels back to Pocatello where the squad will host North Dakota State on Saturday at Reed Gym. The game will mark the Bengals' final non-conference contest of the season. ISU opens conference play on the road at Sacramento State on Jan. 12.
