Flagstaff, AZ--Jennifer Loo sent a free ball into the box and Chelsea Cox headed it in the right side of the net in the 104th minute to give Idaho State a 2-1 double-overtime win over Northern Arizona Friday evening under the lights at Lumberjack Stadium.
Idaho State improves to 6-7-0 overall on the season with the win, and ups its conference record to 2-1-0. Northern Arizona falls to 6-8-0 on the season, 1-2-0 in Big Sky play.
"Our team fought so hard tonight," said ISU head coach Allison Gibson. "They deserved to win. Everyone played so well. I thought our defensive effort was solid, and the offense fed of the play of the defense."
With the game tied 0-0, Northern Arizona's Cee Cee Odorfer scored the game's first goal after she put a shot into the back of the net in the 48th minute to give the Lumberjacks the second period lead.
"Our team wasn't even phased by NAU's goal," Gibson said. "It just fired them up more. The team didn't get flustered. They remained calm and went on the attack."
Kilee Quigley helped Idaho State tie up the game in the 65th minute when she knocked the ball off the right post and into the back of the goal for the score. Natalie Graham was credited with the assist on the goal. The goal is Quigley's third of the season, and fourth of her career.
"Kilee played unbelievable tonight," Gibson said. "She took over and the team fed off of her. Her play gave everyone a spark and we completely dominated the game after that goal."
Cox then helped ISU seal the victory with a goal in the 104th minute. The overtime game-winning goal marks the first career goal for Cox, who is in her sophomore season with the team. The Bountiful, Utah native had three shots on the night with two on goal.
Idaho State dominated the overtime periods, out-shooting Northern Arizona 7-0. Overall, the Bengals recorded 20 shots to NAU's 10. ISU had 11 shots on goal while Northern Arizona collected seven.
Quigley led the Bengals with five shots, four on goal. Chantal Kim registered four shots with three on goal while Graham and Cox added three shots each.
Lyndsay Gensler led the Bengal defense in goal, playing all 103:50 minutes. Gensler collected six saves on the night.
Idaho State will continue road play on Sunday as the team travels to take on Northern Colorado. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m. The Bengals next return home to host Eastern Washington on Oct. 22.
