Box Score
Greeley, CO--Jenny Ford came off the bench and made the most of her time, scoring two goals in a three minute span to help Idaho State to a 3-0 win over Northern Colorado Sunday afternoon at Jackson Soccer Stadium. With the win, Idaho State completes a two-game road sweep.
The win marks the third straight for the Bengals, who improve to 7-7-0 overall, 3-1-0 in Big Sky Conference play. Northern Colorado falls to 5-10-0 on the season, 1-3-0 in league play.
"We got off to a slow start but got some fresh legs into the game and it paid off for us," said ISU head coach Allison Gibson. "We subbed in Jenny (Ford) and Ali (Zikratch) into the game and they just took over. It was awesome to watch."
Ford, who came into the game at the 25:20 mark, got to work right away, putting in a score in the 38th minute. The goal was assisted by both Ali Zikratch and Kilee Quigley.
Then, just three minutes later, Ford received the ball again and put it in the back of the net in at the 41:06 mark to give the Bengals a 2-0 lead at halftime. Zikratch recorded her second assist of the game on Ford's second goal. Jill Christofferson also assisted on the score.
Ford becomes the third Bengal this season to score two goals in a single game. No Bengal has ever recorded three goals in a single game.
Natalie Graham wrapped up the scoring for Idaho State, putting a goal into the net in the 47th minute. The score is Graham's second of the season and the eighth of her career. Kalie McGuire assisted Graham on the goal.
Lyndsay Gensler picked up her third shutout of the season with the win. The senior keeper recorded a career-high 10 saves in the effort.
Graham led the Bengals on the day with four shots, three on goal. Ford, Quigley, and Michelle Okumura each had two shots.
As a team, Idaho State collected 14 shots with six on goal while Northern Colorado registered 16 shots with 10 on goal. After being out-shot 10-6 in the first period, Idaho State held the Bears to just six shots in the second period.
"As a team, we've been talking a lot about what great teams do as opposed to what good teams do," Gibson said. "This week, we played like a great team. Despite all the unlucky little things that happen to us, we fight through it and battle to the end. We've toppled all of the obstacles that a road trip like this one brings and came away with the sweep. Our players are on a huge high, which should give us a lot of confidence when we head back out on the road next week."
Idaho State continues road play as the team travels to Missoula to take on Montana on Oct. 19. Kick-off is set for 4 p.m. The Bengals then return to Pocatello for their final home game of the season against Eastern Washington on Oct. 22.
