Pocatello, ID--Idaho State's Chantal Kim made history Sunday at Davis Field, scoring three goals in a 5-1 victory over Eastern Washington. With the win, Idaho State clinches at least a share of the 2006 Big Sky Conference regular season championship and also clinches one of the four spots at the Big Sky Conference Tournament.

The win pushes ISU's record to 9-7-0 overall, 5-1-0 in Big Sky play. Eastern Washington falls to 5-12-1 on the season, 1-5-0 in conference play. The Bengals now have 5-1-0 Big Sky record, marking just the third time that an ISU team has won five league games in a single season.

"I'm so proud of our girls that I don't even know how to describe it," said ISU head coach Allison Gibson. "It was fitting that this was our senior's final regular season game. Our seniors have led us this season. We have jumped on board with them and are enjoying the ride. Our team believes in itself and believes in one another, and I've never been a part of anything more special. They are great people and they work hard. They deserve everything the get."

Kim becomes the first player in Idaho State history to score three goals in a single game. Prior to Kim, an ISU player had scored two goals in a single game on 20 different occasions, but no player had ever put in three prior to Kim's performance on Sunday.

"I would love to say that I could take full credit for the three goals but I can't," Kim said of her performance. "The reason I was even in position to score was because of my teammates. We play so well together and my record is a team record. It was no individual effort."

Kim scored her first goal of the game in the 21st minute when she received a 35-yard pass from Kalie McGuire. The score gave ISU the early 1-0 lead. Eastern Washington countered the goal with a score in the 32nd minute when Chelsey Hannesson sent a free kick from 20-yards out over the out-stretched hand of Bengal keeper Lynsday Gensler. The EWU goal tied the game at 1-1.

Jill Christofferson put the Bengals back on top in the 34th minute when she put a ball in the back of the net for her first goal of the season. Christofferson's goal was assisted by both Natalie Graham and Michelle Okumura. The goal also gave ISU a 2-1 advantage at the half.

Okumura was the third Bengal of the day to get a ball in the net, putting a ball past the EWU keeper at the 66:59 mark. She was assisted on the goal by Annamarie Hofstetter. Kim then went back to work, putting ISU's fourth goal of the day in the back of the net at the 67:25 mark, just 26 seconds after Okumura's goal. The two scores are the fastest consecutive goals in Idaho State history.

Kim finished up her record day with her third goal of the day after she broke loose on the left side of the net and put in a score in the 76th minute. Okumura picked up her third assist of the day on the score.

As at team, Idaho State out-shot Eastern Washington 15-9, including a 10-5 advantage on goal. Kim fronted the Bengals with four shots. Kilee Quigley had three shots, and Okumura registered two. Gensler led ISU in goal with four saves on the day.

NOTES: The Big Sky regular season champion gets the rights to host the Big Sky Tournament... The site of the tournament will either be held in Pocatello or in Portland depending on the results of next week's games... An Idaho State tie or a win over Weber State on Oct. 28 would clinch the out-right Big Sky regular season title and would clinch the right to host the Big Sky Tournament... A Portland State win with an ISU loss next week would give PSU the rights to host the tournament... if Portland State loses or ties Sacramento State on Friday night, Idaho State would win the out-right Big Sky regular season title and the rights to host the tournament... Prior to Sunday's game, Elizabeth Roberts, Lyndsey Gensler, Tia Burns, Chantal Kim, and Jennifer Loo were honored in a short ceremony as outgoing seniors.
