Pocatello, ID--Emily Waldron recorded a career-high 21 kills and Nikki Havens added 20 as Idaho State defeated Northern Arizona 3-2 (30-26, 30-25, 28-30, 28-30, 15-8) Thursday night at Reed Gym.
The win pushes Idaho State's record to 8-12 overall, 4-3 in Big Sky play. Northern Arizona falls to 6-10 overall, 2-5 in league play.
"I thought we battled hard tonight," said ISU head coach Mike Welch. "I was impressed with how are team hung in there and fought to the very end. We saw some good things tonight. This was an important Big Sky match for us to win, and gives us some good momentum heading into Saturday night's match against Sacramento State."
Waldron registered her 21 kills on 49 attacks with just eight errors for a .265 hitting mark. The freshman outside hitter also collected four service aces and six digs in the effort. Havens added her 20 kills on 41 attacks with only two errors for a .439 attack percentage.
Katie Hurst helped the Bengal attack with 13 kills and Jessica Gurney added 11. Hurst also added 14 digs for her fourth double-double of the season. Christine Collette also added to her double-double total with 57 assists and 13 digs, marking her sixth double-double mark of the season.
Bri Beal led the defensive attack for ISU with a match-high 19 digs. She also had three service aces.
Idaho State tallied 13 total service aces on the night. The team connected on 74 kills on 193 attacks for a .285 attack mark. The Bengals held Northern Arizona to 73 kills on 175 attacks. Idaho State also out-blocked NAU 8-5.
The Bengals continue Big Sky play on Saturday when the team hosts Sacramento State. Opening serve is set for 7 p.m.
