Final Stats
Pullman, WA --- For 29 minutes, it looked like Idaho State was ready to pull off the upset they've been so close to, but Washington State went on a crucial 22-4 run over a 7:05 mark of the second half, and that was enough to thwart a wicked late comeback attempt as Idaho State dropped a 66-60 decision on the Palouse.
The Bengals led 28-27 at the half, and that came despite a rough start from senior David Schroder, who was just 1-for-7 in the first half, including three shots getting blocked, but his three at the 11:22 mark gave Idaho State a 41-37 lead, their largest, and things looked good.
However, the Cougars (5-0), in the midst of their best start in school history, exploded for a 22-4 run, giving them a 59-44 leads after a Mac Hopson three-point play. Things looked hopeless at that point, but the Bengals made a furious last ditch effort, getting 12 points in the final 1:39 to make things interesting, but ISU ran out of time.
Schroeder picked up his second career double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds, and Matt Stucki and Akbar Abdul-Ahad picked up 16 each. For the Cougars, sharp-shooter Derek Lowe scored 22, and Kyle Weaver and Daven Harmeling each chipped in 11.
Idaho State held the Cougars, who came in shooting .548 from the field, to just .397 from the field and .333 from three point range, but the Bengals were outrebounded 35-30, and ISU had just five assists to 14 turnovers.
Idaho State will finally end their long opening road trip on Saturday when the Bengals take on #10 Texas A&M at Reed Arena in College Station.
NOTES: The Cougars blocked six shots ... the Bengals were 9-for-18 from the three-point line.
