Final Stats
Eugene, OR - The 22nd-ranked Oregon Ducks might be a bit underrated. The Ducks looked every bit their ranking and more, as they hit 14 three-pointers and held Idaho State to just .367 shooting as Oregon knocked out the Bengals 84-55 on Sunday night in 80-year old McArthur Court.
Oregon shot .533 from the field on the night in defeating their second straight Big Sky team, as they defeated Eastern Washington 100-74 on Friday night. Idaho State was hurt in the first half when Jon Ofoegbu went to the bench quickly after two offensive fouls, and then he didn't enter the second half until five minutes passed as head coach Joe O'Brien went small, with Logan Kinghorn at center, and starting Cory O'Brien and Austin Kilpatrick in the second half.
Idaho State however, missed on all six of their second half three-point opportunities
Oregon led 45-28 at the intermission as the trio of Aaron Brooks, Malik Hairston, and Bryan Taylor scored the final 21 points of the half for the Ducks, including five three-pointers over the last 9:08. Hairston scored 17 first half points on a variety of shots, from threes to tip-ins.
Akbar Abdul-Ahad kept the Bengals close with 11 first half points, and Logan Kinghorn had four rebounds, nearly half of ISU's first half total of 10.
Preseason All-American Malik Hairston scored a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds, although he did miss five straight shots in the final two minutes, getting all five rebounds. Aaron Brooks added 18. For the Bengals, Abdul-Ahad scored 15, David Schreoder added 11, and John Ofoegbu had 10, all in the second half. The Bengals were outrebounded 44-26 on the night, and Schroeder and Kinghorn each had six.
ISU gets no real rest, as they will head straight back to Pocatello to get ready for their Tuesday night game with Utah Valley State in Holt Arena. That game tips at 7:05 pm, and it is faculty/staff appreciation night, with faculty and staff able to pick up two free tickets during the day, and they can purchase extras for 5 apiece.
Notes: Idaho State had just 10 rebounds in the first half¬¬ ... the game took just 1:27, easily the shortest game in recent memory ... there were only 19 combined fouls in the game, and just one called timeout.
