Boise, ID--After connecting on 10 first half three-point field goals and playing Boise State to a 44-44 halftime tie, Idaho State cooled off in the second half as the Broncos ran to an 86-78 win over the Bengals Saturday afternoon at Taco Bell Arena.
With the loss, Idaho State falls to 3-8 overall while Boise State improves to 9-4. The Broncos have now won six of their last seven games, while ISU drops its first game in three tries.
"We did some good things today," said ISU head coach Jon Newlee. "We had a good stretch there in the first half where we took good shots and played tough defense. We didn't do that in the second half. We didn't stay as poised as we were in the first half."
Idaho State took a 57-56 lead with 15:30 to play in the second half, but Boise State answered with a 17-4 run to take a 73-61 advantage with 8:40 to play, proving to be enough to secure the win.
Andrea Lightfoot led the Bengals with 20 points, marking the fourth time this season that the junior guard has posted 20 or more points in a game. Lightfoot also pulled down eight rebounds and dished out three assists.
Natalie Doma recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Doma connected on 7-of-18 shots from the field. She also had a game-high three blocks in the effort.
Idaho State continued its hot outside shooting, connecting on 14-of-32 shots from long range. Lightfoot, Jeni Boesel, and Jenna Brown each put in three shots from beyond the arc, while Michelle Grohs and Kaylynn Fager each added two from three.
The 14 made 3-point field goals marks the third straight game that Idaho State has connected on 14 or more threes in a single game.
Boesel reached double digits with 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting, including a 3-of-6 clip from three.
Idaho State shot nearly 46 percent from the field and 43.8 percent from long range. The Bengals shot 50 percent from the floor in the first half and connected on 10-of-19 shots from long range in the first half.
Five Broncos reached double digit scoring, including a team-high 20 points from Jessica Thompson.
Idaho State will now wrap up its non-conference slate at Utah Valley State on Jan. 6. Tip-off is set for3:05 p.m. ISU will then head to Cheney, Washington to take on Eastern Washington in its Big Sky Conference opener on Jan. 11.
