Zags Nip Bengals 5-2 in Women's Tennis

Kennewick, WA--The Gonzaga University women's tennis team defeated Idaho State University 5-2 on Sunday morning in Kennewick, Washington. ISU dropped four out of the six singles matches and two out of the three doubles matches to take the loss.

Gonzaga's Emily Anderson defeated Denise Cockrell in three sets 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 at No. 1 singles. Armine Sarkavagyan defeated Gonzaga's Erin Humphrey in straight sets 6-3, 6-4, while GU's Sydney Lederhouse defeated Lauren Pascoe 7-5, 1-6, 1-0 at No. 3 singles. ISU picked up a win at No. 4 singles as Valerie Espinosa got past Erica Moldenhauer 6-3, 4-6, 1-0. In the No. 5 spot was Carrie Schofield who clinched the win for the Bulldogs. Schofield defeated Katherine Zigars 7-6, 6-4. Courtney Lau playing in the No. 6 position defeated Stephanie Roldan 6-3, 6-2.

In doubles play, ISU got on the scoreboard early, picking up a win at the No. 1 spot. Cockrell and Pascoe teamed up to defeat GU's team of Lederhous and Humphrey. GU's team of Anderson and Schofield played at No. 2 doubles, defeating Espinosa and Zigars 8-5. To finish thing off for Gonzaga was Colton and Lau playing in the No. 3 doubles spot, defeating ISU's Roldan and Bennion 8-3.

The Bengals return to the court on April 11 when the team travels to play Utah State in Logan, Utah.
