ISU Volleyball Opens Home Slate with 3-0 Win over Montana-Western

Pocatello, ID--Emily Waldron recorded a team-high 12 kills and Katie Hurst added 10 as Idaho State defeated Montana-Western 3-0 Tuesday night in Idaho State's home opener. The Bengals improve to 3-1 with the win, while Montana-Western falls to 0-5.

The Bengals won in three straight games, 30-20, 30-25, and 30-26.

Waldron led the Bengal attack with 12 kills on 26 attacks. The freshman outside hitter committed just two errors for a .385 attack percentage. She also picked up six digs in the effort.

"I thought Emily (Waldron) played great," said ISU head coach Mike Welch. "She not only attacked the ball well, but also passed and defended well."

Katie Hurst tallied double digit kills, collecting 10 on 27 attacks. Hurst also picked up seven digs with three assists. Jessica Gurney helped with eight kills on 13 attacks, while Karli Maughan recorded seven.

Christine Collette fronted ISU with 26 assists, while connecting on six kills and five digs.

The Bengals had a .226 percent mark on attacks, while holding the Lady Bulldogs to a .049 mark. ISU picked up 52 kills to Montana-Western's 26, and had 47 digs to the Bulldogs' 33. Each team recorded five team blocks on the night.

"Tonight was a great opportunity for our younger players to get quality time," Welch said. "We stuck with them all match and it was exciting to watch them get the experience."

Idaho State now heads out on the road for four straight matches, starting with Boise State on Wednesday. ISU will next play at home on Sept. 6 when the team hosts Utah Valley State at 7 p.m.
