Boise, ID--Despite a season-high 12 kills from senior outside hitter Nikki Havens, Idaho State dropped a 3-0 decision to in-state rival Boise State Wednesday evening at Bronco Gym.
The loss drops Idaho State to 3-2 overall on the season, while Boise State evens its record to 2-2. Idaho State dropped the match in three straight games, 25-30, 19-30, and 28-30.
"We played tentative in the first two games and when we finally did start playing well in the third game it was too late," said ISU head coach Mike Welch. "I think our team learned a valuable lesson in that we have to play more composed from the very beginning of the match."
Havens tallied her team-high 12 kills on 28 attacks and just four errors for a .286 hitting mark. ISU's overall season kills leader Jessica Gurney collected seven kills on 19 attacks, while Katie Hurst helped with six more.
"Nikki had a really good match," Welch said. "She carried a big load tonight and showed her senior leadership out on the floor."
Christine Collette continues to lead the Bengal offense in assists, recording a team-high 25 on the night. Amanda Bevens also saw time as setter with five assists.
Defensively, Bri Beal had a match-high 15 digs in the effort, while Hurst and Collette each registered nine. Gurney led the team with five blocks.

The Bengals continue play on Friday as the team travels to play in the North Florida Labor Day Classic. ISU will play Murray State, Appalachian State, and North Florida at the tournament, which will conclude on Saturday afternoon.
