Pocatello, ID--Despite a career-high 18-kill effort from Zoe Beltz and 17 kills from Nikki Havens, Idaho State dropped a 3-1 (27-30, 30-25, 28-30, 21-30) decision to Big Sky newcomer Northern Colorado Saturday evening at Reed Gym.
The loss drops Idaho State to 5-9 overall, 1-1 in Big Sky play, while Northern Colorado improves to 5-6 overall, 2-0 in the league.
"I thought our rally to win game two was inspiring," said Idaho State head coach Mike Welch. "But we didn't do the things we did in Thursday's win over Eastern Washington. The Idaho State team on Thursday night was a much different team than the one tonight."
Beltz registered her career high 18 kills on 35 attacks with just three errors. She connected on a .429 attack percentage on the night. She also added three blocks in the effort. Havens' 17 blocks came on 35 attacks and seven errors.
Bri Beal led the defensive effort with a team-high 17 digs, while Emily Waldron and Katie Hurst helped with 14 each. Amanda Bevens was just eight assists shy of a career high with 51.
The Bengals connected on 62 kills while hitting .213 at the net compared to Northern Colorado's 75 kills and .241 attack mark. The Bears also out-blocked ISU 12-8.
Devon Crotteau led the Northern Colorado effort with 17 kills, while three others reached double digit kills.
Idaho State now heads out on its first Big Sky road trip of the season, traveling to Montana and Montana State on Sept. 21 and 23, respectively. The Bengals next play at home on Sept. 28 when the team hosts Portland State.
