Idaho State Takes 3-1 Loss to Appalachian State at North Florida Classic

Jacksonville, FL--Nikki Havens led the Bengals with 11 kills and three others added six more, but it wasn't enough as Idaho State fell 3-1 to Appalachian State Saturday morning at the North Florida Labor Day Classic in Jacksonville, Florida.

The Bengals won game one 30-25, but then dropped three straight, 23-30, 20-30, and 22-30. The loss drops the Bengals to 3-4 on the season, while Appalachian State improves to 3-2. The loss marks the first time this season that ISU has dropped back-to-back matches.

Havens led ISU with a team-high 11 kills on 30 attacks with six errors for a .167 hitting mark. Jessica Gurney, Zoe Beltz, and Ashlyn McDowell each recorded six kills.

Bri Beal led the ISU defense with 11 digs, while helping offensively with three service aces. Christine Collette collected a career-high five service aces in the effort with a team-best 27 assists.

As a team, Idaho State recorded a .068 attack percentage, while Appalachian State registered a .263 mark. The Bengals had six team blocks to Appalachian's 11.

ISU continues play at the North Florida Labor Day Classic at 5 p.m. today as the faces tournament host North Florida. The Bengals next return home on Sept. 6 when the team hosts Utah Valley State at Reed Gym.
