Pocatello, ID--Jessica Gurney recorded a team-high 12 kills, but it wasn't enough as Idaho State dropped a 3-0 (16-30, 31-33, 27-30) decision to Portland State Thursday night at Reed Gym. With the loss, Idaho State falls to 6-11 overall, 2-3 in Big Sky play. Portland State improves to 10-4 on the season, 5-0 in league play.
"Despite the loss, we played well," said ISU head coach Mike Welch. "We were very close in our final two games. We played hard and I'm impressed with our effort. I think we'll bounce back quick, and we're excited to host Weber State on Friday."
Gurney recorded her 12 kills on 23 attacks without a single error for a .522 attack percentage. Nikki Havens helped with nine kills, while Zoe Beltz added nine.
Christine Collette controlled the offensive effort for ISU with a team-high 25 assists, while Bevens came off the bench to add 12. Bri Beal led the Bengals defensively with a match-high 15 digs.
As a team, Idaho State recorded a .167 attack clip with 43 kills on 120 attacks at the net. Portland State, which went without an error in game one, finished with a .347 attack on 57 kills and 118 attacks. Idaho State out-blocked the Vikings 8-7.
Idaho State continues play on Friday as the team hosts Weber State at Reed Gym. Opening serve is set for 7 p.m.
