Boise, ID--Tia Burns dribbled into position and past a defender to score the game-winning goal in the 41st minute, helping Idaho State to a 1-0 victory over Boise State and the Governor's Cup title.

"It's great to bring back the Cup to Pocatello," said ISU head coach Allison Gibson. "This is a proud moment for our team, our community, and our university."

Idaho State wins the Governor's Cup title for just the second time in its nine year history. The last time the Bengals swept the in-state teams and won the Governor's Cup was during the 2000 season in Pocatello.

"This says a lot about our team and the direction we are heading," Gibson said. "It's not easy to come into Boise and sweep both in-state schools. The competition was tough, and our players fought through it. Our players play with a lot of heart and passion every single day, and that paid off for us this week."

Burns' goal marked her second of the week. She also put in a score in the win over Idaho on Friday. Burns' score was one of three shots on goal for the Bengals, compared to Boise State's two. The Broncos did have eight shots on the day, while ISU registered five.

Annamarie Hofstetter led the Bengals with two shots against BSU, while Natalie Graham, Michelle Okumura, and Burns each recorded one.

ISU keeper Lyndsay Gensler played a major factor in the win for the Bengals, tallying two saves on the day. Gensler chased down balls in the box on numerous occasion before a BSU offender could get to the ball.

Idaho State continues road play next week in California as the team travels to take on San Jose State and UC Davis on Sept. 8 and 10, respectively.
