Bengal Women Drop First Conference Road Game of the Season, Fall 76-71 at Portland State

Portland, OR--Despite a 24-point, 13-rebound effort from Natalie Doma and 19 points from Jeni Boesel, Idaho State dropped its first Big Sky Conference road game of the season, falling 76-71 to Portland State Saturday afternoon at the Stott Center.

The loss drops the Bengals to 7-11 overall, 3-3 in league play. The Vikings improve to 8-13 overall and 4-4 in the conference.

Idaho State trailed by 13 points, 46-33 with 14:57 to play, but rallied to cut the lead to just two points, 57-55, with seven minutes to play. Portland State then countered with a 7-0 run to push the lead to nine at 69-60 with 3:47 remaining.

The Bengals then outscored the Vikings 9-2 over the next three minutes to cut the Viking lead back to two points, 71-69 with 24 seconds to play. The Vikings then connected on 5-of-6 free throws to finish the game and secure the victory.

Doma led the Bengals with a game-high 24 points to go along with 13 rebounds for her 13th double-double of the season. The junior center hit 11-of-19 shots from the field. Boesel added 19 points, while Andrea Lightfoot scored 12.

Idaho State, which averaged nearly nine threes a game heading into the contest, recorded just a 3-of-17 clip from long range. The Bengals committed 12 turnovers in the game while forcing PSU into 17. ISU also outrebounded the Vikings 40-38.

Portland State got 32 points from its bench compared to ISU's 12.

The Bengals continue road play next week at Northern Arizona and Sacramento State. ISU's next home game is set for Feb. 8 against Northern Colorado.
