Volleyball Bengals Can't Match Football Team's Success against Portland State

Pocatello, ID- Hours after the football Bengals pick up a big win against the Vikings, the volleyball Bengals fall to Portland State 3-1 (30-28, 29-31, 22-30, 25-30) Saturday night at Reed Gym. Idaho State falls to 5-17 overall; 1-9 in Big Sky play. Portland State improves to 15-6 overall; 8-2 in conference.

This is the third consecutive match that the Bengals have won the first game. However, only once did they go on to win the match. ISU is now 3-5 this season when they take the early advantage. Despite the loss, ISU actually out-hit Portland State in three of the four games.

Sarah Carson finished off a good week for her with a team leading 17 kills with only one attack error. She hit .552 on 29 attacks. Emily Waldron picked up a double-double with 12 kills and 18 digs. Christine Van Orden and Blakely Peppinger shared setting duties with Van Orden pitching in 31 assists and Peppinger adding 28. Kolay Mickelson was effective in limited playing time tying a career high with 9 kills while committing no attack errors.

Marija Vojnovic topped the Vikings with 19 kills and 17 digs. Dominique Fradella was solid with 58 assists and 11 digs. Michelle Segun made her presence known at the net with 11 kills and 8 blocks.

The Bengals will now go on the road for a pair of matches. They will be in Ogden, Utah to face rival Weber State Friday, October 26. Then ISU will dip out of conference on Saturday to take on Utah Valley. Both matches set to start at 7:00 pm.
