Final Stats
Cheney, WA --- Morgan O'Friel knocked home a cross from Jocelyn Bement to end ISU's shutout streak at 449 minutes and 10 seconds, and that was the only goal Eastern Washington would need as they upset Idaho State 1-0 in Cheney dealing a serious blow to Idaho State's conference tournament hopes.
The Bengals now have to have a very exact combination of things to go right in order to qualify as the #4 seed in the conference tournament. First off, the Bengals need to Montana to either tie or beat Eastern Washington on Friday afternoon in Missoula (4:00 pm kickoff). Then on Saturday, Idaho State must beat Weber State at Davis Field in a game that starts at 1:00 pm while the Bengals need for the noon game between Northern Arizona and Northern Colorado to end in a tie. That combination, and only that combination, will put the Bengals (6-5-6 overall, 1-2-3 conference) into the tournament.
Eastern Washington, despite being tied with the Bengals, can't make the tournament as the best they can do is tie with Northern Colorado for fourth, and even if that tie involves ISU as well, UNC would own the tiebreakers over both teams. Idaho State does own a straight up tiebreak with Northern Colorado by virtue of UNC's loss to Weber State, where ISU would have to beat Weber State to tie with the Bears.
Sacramento State, Weber State, and Portland State have all punched their tickets to the tournament, and Northern Colorado, Northern Arizona, and Idaho State have a shot at the tournament.
For the Bengals, the game Sunday was another case where ISU outshot their opponent, this time 14-9, and the Bengals racked up eight corners to Eastern's one, but ISU couldn't put one in the net. Idaho State has scored just two goals in six conference games, and they have only allowed three, a league low.
The game on Saturday against Weber State will mark the final home game for ISU's four seniors, Maren Eves, Michelle Okamura, Natalie Graham, and Jill Christofferson, and it starts at 1:00 pm.
NOTES: Idaho State is 8-1 all-time in conference tournament games ... The Bengals had won eight of the last nine against Eastern Washington ... Idaho State has allowed one goal or less in 12 straight games ...
