Final Stats
Corvallis, OR --- Idaho State University got a 14-point effort from Chron Tatum, but Idaho State struggled on the boards for the second straight game, as the University of Portland defeated the Bengals 76-52 in the middle game of the Oregon State Classic.
The Bengals remained winless away from Holt Arena, dropping to 1-5 on the season. The Bengals opened up a 5-0 lead early on the strength of an Austin Kilpatrick three-pointer, but Portland raced right back and took the lead at 8-7 on a jumper by Sherrard Watson, and another Watson jumper gave them the lead for good at 10-9. Portland was up 36-25 at the break, but ISU's Amorrow Morgan scored the first basket of the second half, but the Pilots slowly and methodically pushed the lead ahead, with the 24-point final margin the largest for the Pilots (2-3).
Idaho State could never get it going offensively, shooting just .339 for the game, and only .231 from three-point range. The Pilots shot .444 from the field and .391 from three-point land.
Chron Tatum was the bright spot for the Bengals, scoring 14 points, but he was the only Bengal in double-figures. Logan Kinghorn had a game-high five boards for ISU. Led by Watson, four Pilots hit double-figures, with Nik Raivio added 15, Robin Smeulders had 13, and Luke Sikma, son of former Seattle Supersonics star Jack Sikma, had 10. Sikma also had nine boards.
The Bengals now come home to rest for a few days before heading back on the road to end their second three-game road trip of the season, traveling to take on the University of Idaho at approximately 8:30 pm Mountain Time on Saturday night. The game will start at 8:30 pm or later, depending on the Idaho women's game earlier in the day, as the Bengals are part of a back end of the double-header.
NOTES: Idaho State used a different starting lineup, starting Demetrius Monroe and having Tatum come off the bench ... Idaho State scored a season-high 29 points off the bench ... Idaho State scored just one basket off of Portland's turnovers ... Matt Stucki had three assists with no turnovers.
