Hitting Threes and Picking Pockets Recipe for Success as Bengals Beat Southern Utah 82-57

Pocatello, ID --- Andrea Lightfoot just missed her first double-double of the season and national player of the year candidate Natalie Doma got her tenth of the season as the Idaho State Bengals beat the Southern Utah Thunderbirds 82-57 Thursday night at Reed Gym. Lightfoot lead the Bengals with 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Doma had 18 points and a team high 11 rebounds. Idaho State improved to 8-3. Southern Utah fell to 2-7.

Lightfoot shot 5-11 from the field, but all five of her field goals were for three, a season high for her. She also made all six of her free throw attempts. Lightfoot showed her versatility by collecting a season-high nine rebounds and a season-high five assists.

The Bengals struggled the first ten minutes of the game trailing 18-10 with 9:56 left in the first half. Lightfoot then hit one of her five threes to spark the Bengals, who finished the first half with a 27-10 run. Lightfoot scored eight of her points during the run.

Michelle Grohs chipped in 12 points on 5-8 shooting and picked up a three steals. Andrea Videbeck played 19 minutes and made a career high four steals. The Bengals were the better thieves out-stealing the Thunderbirds 14-4.

Erin Heuett was the only Thunderbird to score in double figures with 11 points. Anne Westwood just missed a double-double with nine points and rebounds.

Idaho State will now take a few days off for the holiday break before getting ready for their final non-conference game of the regular season on December 29th when they host in-state rival Boise State. The game is set to start at 2:05 pm at Reed Gym.

Notes: Andrea Lightfoot has made 28 consecutive free throws... Under Jon Newlee, the Bengals are 27-4 when they hold their opponent to under 59 points... Freshman Cara Lambert hit three free throws to score the first points of her career... Freshman Chelsea Pickering made Bengal debut grabbing one rebound in two minutes.
