Boise State Hands Bengals First Home Loss of the Season 78-74 at Reed Gym

Pocatello, ID --- The Idaho State Bengals could not overcome a poor shooting night and Boise State slipped away from Reed Gym with a 78-74 victory Saturday afternoon. The Bengals shot 38.5 percent from the field and a season-low 68.8 percent from the free throw line. The loss is the first at home this season and dropped the Bengals to 8-4. The win moves the Broncos up to 8-4. The game wrapped up Idaho State's non-conference schedule.

Idaho State took a 36-34 lead 20 seconds into the second half. Boise State then hit the Bengals with a barrage of layups and three-pointers to go on a 16-3 run. The Bengals fought back to make it a game when Bianca Cheever hit a three-pointer with just 14 seconds left to cut it to a 76-74 Bronco lead. Jackie Lee iced the game for Boise State by hitting two free throws with under ten seconds left.

The Bengals were an uncharacteristic 11-16 from the line. Idaho State came into the game as the best free throw shooting team in the nation. Andrea Lightfoot missed a free throw with 10:07 remaining in the second half to end her streak of 30 consecutive made free throws. That set a new school record.

Natalie Doma was big for Idaho State scoring 27 points and collecting a season-high 20 rebounds. It is Doma's third 20 rebound game of her career and second this season. She hit a career-high four three-pointers. Andrea Lightfoot scored 16 points and also hit four three-pointers. Cheever came off the bench to add ten points.

Idaho State will now get ready for the Big Sky portion of their schedule when they host Northern Colorado on January 3rd. The game is scheduled to start at 7:05 pm and will be broadcast on 91.1 KISU FM and isubengals.com. Jerry Miller and Annie Anderson will have the call.

Notes: On the final play of the first half, 5'3" guard Jenna Brown picked up the first blocked shot of her ISU career... Michelle Grohs blocked a season-high three shots... Devin Diehl passed out a season-high five assists... Natalie Doma (956) passed Hollie Tyler (952) of Montana for fourth on the Big Sky career rebounds list... The attendance was reported as 1,395 making it the largest home crowd of the season... ISU is 2-2 in day games this season, compared to 6-2 when playing at night.
