Second Half 14-0 Run Doom Bengals in Flagstaff 73-63

Flagstaff, AZ --- Tied at 46 all in the second half, Northern Arizona went on a crushing 14-0 run, highlighted by three consecutive three-pointers by the nations leader Stephen Sir, and the Lumberjacks swept the season series with a 73-63 win in the Walkup Skydome.

The loss dropped Idaho State to 12-13 overall and 7-5 in the conference, and they are tied with Montana State for fourth place, as the Bobcats lost to Montana 73-64, MSU's first home loss.

Idaho State struggled in the second half, shooting just .321 in the second half after hitting .591 in the first. The Bengals, down 42-34 at the break, tied the game up early in the second half at 46 on an Akbar Abdul-Ahad jumper with 14:01 left, but ISU would hit just two field goals over the next 11:20.

The 14-0 run for NAU started on a three-point play by Kyle Landry, Rueben Boykin hit a short runner. Idaho State then had four shots to answer back, getting their first three offensive boards, but they couldn't get on to go, and Sir went on his run of three straight threes to make it 60-46.

NAU pushed the lead up to 15, but ISU hit a 10 straight free throws to keep it close. Down 69-61, NAU missed the front end of a one-and-one, and Matt Stucki got a good look from three to cut the lead to five with 1:09 left, but it didn't go, and ISU was forced to foul.

The Bengals struggled on the offensive glass, getting just two second chance points. Idaho State finished even in the rebounding battle overall, but got several late.

David Schroeder led ISU with 20 points, and Matt Stucki continued his hot play with 16. Akbar Abdul-Ahad had 10 for ISU. Stephen Sir had 20 to lead NAU, with Rueben Boykin adding 17, and Josh Wilson and Tyrone Bazy each getting 11. Boykin had 10 boards for the Lumberjacks, and Logan Kinghorn matched him with 10 for ISU.

Idaho State now has a 12-day break before heading to Cheney, Washington for a game on Thursday, February 22 at 8:05 pm Mountain.

NOTES: Only Weber State and Montana now have four losses, and Montana State, Idaho State, and Northern Arizona have five ... NAU shot just .579 from the line after going 24-for-26 in Pocatello ... NAU's bench outscored ISU's 39-4.
