ISU Softball Drops 11-5 Decision to Utah Valley at Red Desert Classic

St. George, UT--Idaho State dropped its second game at the Red Desert Classic, falling 11-5 to Utah Valley State Friday morning at the Canyons Complex. The loss drops the Bengals to 0-2 on the season while Utah Valley opens the season at 1-0.

After falling behind 3-0 after the first inning, ISU's Christine Shollenberger drove in a pair of runs with a double, sparking a four-run inning to give ISU a 4-3 lead. The Wolverines then countered with a run in the bottom of the second to tie the game at 4-4.

Utah Valley used two runs in the bottom of the third and four more in the bottom of the fourth to take a 10-4 advantage. Heather Dixon tried to rally the Bengals in the top of the fifth, connecting on her second homerun of the season, but it proved to ISU's final run of the game in the 11-5 loss.

Idaho State connected on eight hits in the game, including two hits each from Christine Keeton and Amy Webb.

Dixon was credited with the loss for ISU, pitching three innings with three earned runs and a pair of strikeouts. Kandis Clesson also recorded two innings on the mound for ISU, giving up just one hit while striking out one. Andrea Corburn pitched the final inning for the Bengals, hurling three strikeouts with on earned run.

Utah Valley's Jackie Roberts recorded the win on the mound, pitching four innings with five strikeouts and four earned runs.

Idaho State continues play at the Red Desert Classic today at 4 p.m. as the team takes on Loyola Marymount. The Bengals wrap of play at the Classic on Saturday against Utah State at 1:30 p.m.
