Bengal Softball Drops Pair at Albertson

Caldwell, ID--Idaho State dropped a pair of games to Albertson College Sunday afternoon at Symms Field, falling 5-4 in game one followed by a 7-6 loss in game two. Idaho State falls to 2-11 overall on the season, while Albertson improves to 8-4.

Tied 3-3 in game one, Idaho State's Kaylie Neal hit a single to right field in the top of the ninth inning, knocking in Amanda Stachowsky for the go ahead run. Albertson's Brooke Judy then hit a two-run single in the bottom of the ninth to win the game for the Yotes.

Neal went 2-5 with three RBI. Heather Dixon hit her fourth homerun of the season while going 1-3 at the plate. Kylie Bronson and Stachowsky each went 1-2 with a run scored. The Bengals left eight runners on base in the loss.

Lindsay Boughton pitched eight innings for ISU, giving up just five hits and three runs. She faced 29 batters with eight strikeouts.

Game two was similar to the first. The Bengals trailed by two runs, 6-4, in the top of the sixth inning when Boughton and Neal each scored to tie the game at 6-6. The Bengals held ACI scoreless in the bottom of the sixth but failed to score in the top of the seventh. Albertson took advantage, scoring a run in the bottom of the seventh to secure the 7-6 win.

Highlighting the night cap was Dixon, who went 2-3 with her fifth homerun of the season. Christine Schollenberger went 2-4 at the plate as did Stachowsky, who also scored a pair of runs.

Dixon also pitched 4.1 innings, giving up only one earned run.

Idaho State continues play this week, traveling to California where the team will play a double-header against Santa Clara on March 7. The team will then head to Moraga, California to play in the St. Mary's Invitational March 9-11.
