Pocatello, ID-- ISU women's tennis was defeated by Weber State 5-2 Wednesday afternoon. The Bengals' season record falls to 2-8 with a Big Sky record of 0-5. Weber State improves their season record to 7-12.
The Bengals lost two of the three doubles matches to put them behind 1-0 early in the match. Lisel Lewis and Sophie Dang finished first by defeating Ashley Schapper and Elsje Beneke 8-1 at number 3 doubles. Lewis' and Dang's doubles record improves to 3-3. Valerie Espinosa and Katherine Zigars fought hard but were defeated by Inalise Pienaar and Kate Ennenga 8-6 at the number one doubles spot.
Idaho State then lost four of the six singles contests to take the 5-2 loss. Freshman, Lewis played tough to defeat Pienaar 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 at the number one singles spot. Lewis' singles record improves to 4-6. Sophomore, Stephanie Roldan gained a victory for the Bengals when Beneke retired at 5-7, 3-0.
The Bengals next match with be against Montana State in Bozeman on Saturday, April 21st at 10 a.m.
