Orem, UT--Idaho State wrapped up its season on a high note Saturday, defeating Utah Valley State 11-8 in the second game of a doubleheader after dropping a 13-5 decision in game one. The Bengals connected on eight home runs on the day, five of which came in the second game to secure the win at MStar Field.
Trailing 6-1 in game one, Idaho State rallied in the top of the fifth inning after Kylie Bronson connected on a two-out solo home run. Kaylie Neal followed Bronson's lead with a three-run shot in the fifth to help Idaho State move to within one run, 6-5.
Utah Valley answered with two more runs in the bottom of the fifth and five more in the bottom of the sixth to secure the win.
Lindsay Boughton recorded 5.2 innings of work in the circle for ISU. Boughton struck out seven in the effort.
Idaho State got off to a quick start in game two as Christine Shollenberger opened the game with a lead-off home run over the center field fence in the top of the first. Amy Webb also scored in the inning to give ISU the early 2-0 lead.
The Bengals recorded three more runs in the second inning as Shanna Schmitz opened the inning with a home run. Andrea Coburn followed Schmitz' lead with a two-run home run in the second, her first of the season. Bronson added her second home run of the day in the fifth inning, while Shollenberger added her second home run of the game in the sixth to secure an 11-8 win.
Shollenberger went 4-5 at the plate in game two, while Webb and Dixon each went 3-5.
Coburn picked up the win in the circle for ISU, pitching 5.0 innings with seven strikeouts. Boughton pitched two innings of relief with three strikeouts.
Idaho State wraps up its first season since the 1983 season.
