Idaho State Picks up Road Win with 3-1 Victory at Fresno State

Fresno, CA--Emily Waldron and Christine Van Orden each recorded double-doubles as Idaho State picked up its first road win of the season, defeating Fresno State 3-1 (30-28, 23-30, 30-28, 30-24) Thursday night at the Save Mart Center. The win pushes Idaho State's record to 2-3 while Fresno State drops to 0-4.

Waldron notched her double-double with 14 kills and 19 digs. The sophomore outside hitter tallied 55 attacks and committed just four errors for a .182 hitting mark. Van Orden led the Bengals with a match-high 43 assists with 14 digs for her first double-double of the year.

Freshman Charlee Kinghorn led Idaho State at the net with 15 kills while teammate Jessica Gurney also reached double digits kills with 13. Kolay Mickelsen helped with nine kills and Sarah Carson added six.

"Offensively, we fired from all cylinders and we had productive nights from all five of our hitters," said ISU head coach Mike Welch. "Defensively, we improved and we're getting better and better, and right now we are going in a good direction. We are starting to slow down opposing offenses and that's a big step for us."

Defensively, Katie Edgson led the Bengals with a match-high 27 digs and Jenna Proost also reached double digits with 13 digs.

Proost and Blakely Peppinger each notched three service aces on the night.

"We served very aggressively, and that opened things up and put a lot of pressure on Fresno State," Welch added.

As a team, Idaho State recorded a .237 attack percentage, connecting on 63 kills with 16 errors. The team registered seven team blocks.

Idaho State will continue road play on Friday at Cal State Bakersfield. Opening serve is set for 8 p.m.
