Bakersfield, CA--Despite an 11-kill night from freshman Charlee Kinghorn and a double-double effort from Christine Van Orden, Idaho State dropped a 3-0 (22-30, 17-30, 28-30) decision to Cal State Bakersfield Friday night at the Icardo Center.
With the loss, Idaho State falls to 2-4 on the season while CSUB ups its record to 3-2.
The Bengals did keep the third game of the match close, taking a late 26-23 lead. CSUB battled back to sneak away with the game, going on a 7-2 run to secure the game and the match.
"Bakersfield played an aggressive offense in which we did not respond as well as we should," said ISU head coach Mike Welch. "We were even or ahead in the first half of each game. We gave up some runs of points that were the separating differences."
Kinghorn recorded her team-high 11 kills on 35 attacks and six errors. The first-year outside hitter connected on a .143 hitting mark. Katie Edgson had six kills on the night while Sarah Carson tallied five and Jessica Gurney four. ISU kills leader Emily Waldron was without a kill in Friday night's match.
Van Orden notched her second-straight double-double with 25 assists and 16 digs. On the defensive side of the net, Gurney fronted the Bengals with four kills.
The Bengals managed just a .068 hitting percentage compared to CSUB's .287 mark. The Roadrunners also won the team block battle 8-6.
Idaho State will continue road play on Saturday night as the team will take on UC Davis in Bakersfield, California. Opening serve is set for 5:30 p.m.
