Cheney, WA--Despite taking an early 1-0 lead in the match, Eastern Washington came back to take three straight, defeating the Bengals 3-1 (30-26, 25-30, 22-30, 26-30) Saturday at Reese Court. Jessica Gurney led Idaho State with 12 kills and Christine Van Orden registered a double-double with 29 assists and 14 digs.
The loss drops the Bengals to 3-9 overall, 0-2 in Big Sky Conference play. Eastern Washington picks up its second win of the season, improving to 2-9 overall, 1-1 in league play.
Gurney connected on her team-high 12 kills on 33 attacks and only two errors. The junior outside hitter connected on an impressive .303 hitting mark in the contest. Van Orden was just two kills shy of a triple-double, collecting eight on 21 attacks and just two errors.
Sarah Carson and Kolay Mickelsen each added seven kills and Emily Waldron added four.
Katie Edgson led the defensive effort with a team-high 22 digs. Van Orden and Waldron also reached double-digit digs with 14 and 11, respectively.
Idaho State registered 43 kills with a .092 hitting mark, while the Eagles connected on 72 kills with a .180 attack percentage. The Bengals did out-block Eastern Washington 10-9.
Idaho State now returns home to host Weber State on Sept. 21. Opening serve is set for 7 p.m. The Bengals will step out of conference play to host Utah Valley State on Sept. 22 at 7 p.m.
