Idaho State Drops 3-2 Overtime Decision at Utah

Sept. 15, 2007

Box Score

Salt Lake City, UT--In what would end up being eerily similar to last year's NCAA College Cup first round game between the two teams, Utah scored a game-tying goal with just 1:50 remaining in regulation and then put in another score in the first overtime to come-from-behind and defeat Idaho State 3-2 Friday night at Ute Field.

With the loss, Idaho State falls to 2-2-1 while Utah improves to 2-2-1.

"I'm glad I was here to see it because I wouldn't have believed it if I had heard or read about it," said ISU head coach Allison Gibson after the game. "It's unfortunate for us to go down like that but I know it will make us a stronger team."

After falling behind 1-0 halfway through the first period, Idaho State tied the game at 1-1 in the 26th minute when Michelle Okumura took a pass from Natalie Graham and beat the keeper and hit the back of the net on a shot from 15 yards out. The goal sent the Bengals into halftime with a 1-1 tie.

Idaho State took the lead in the 74th minute after Kilee Quigley sent a free kick from just outside the left side of the box to Kalie McGuire, who headed the ball into the net for the score.

With just 1:50 to go in the game, Utah's Katy Reineke got loose in the box and sent the ball into the net from five yards out. Kelly Isleib assisted the goal, passing the ball to Reineke over the top of a pair of ISU defenders.

The Utes secured the victory with a Letro goal, her sixth of the season and second of the game, scoring on a wide open net in the 97th minute.

Idaho State keeper Maren Eves kept faced 27 Utah shots, including 13 on goal. The senior goalie registered nine saves in the game.

"I though Maren played the game of her career tonight," Gibson said. "She faced so many shots and made some amazing saves for us. There wasn't a whole lot more she could have done. She played fantastic."

Graham, Okumura, and Annamarie Hofstetter led ISU with two shots each. Okumura had two shots on goal, while Lauren Ryan and McGuire each tallied one. Utah was awarded six corner kicks in the game compared to ISU's one. The Bengals were called for 14 fouls to Utah's eight.

Idaho State will continue play in Utah on Sunday as the team travels to Logan to face Utah State. Opening kick is set for noon.
