Pocatello, ID--Idaho State went the distance against Weber State but couldn't close out the conference home opener, falling 3-2 (30-28, 26-30, 27-30, 30-25, 11-15) to the Wildcats Friday night at Reed Gym. The Bengals fall to 3-10 overall, 0-3 in Big Sky play, while WSU improves to 5-6 on the season and 2-1 in league play.
In a match that saw 35 ties and 23 lead changes, Idaho State was able to pick up an early match lead after winning game one, 30-28. Despite dropping the next two games, ISU rallied, recording a 30-25 win in game four to send the match to a deciding game five. Weber got out to an early lead in game five and ISU could not catch up, falling 15-11 in the fifth game.
Charlee Kinghorn led the Bengals at the net, registering a match-high 22 kills. The freshman outside hitter recorded those 22 kills on 57 attacks with only two errors for an impressive .351 hitting mark. Emily Waldron and Sarah Carson also reached double digit kills with 16 and 13, respectively.
Christine Van Orden nearly recorded a triple-double with a 6-kill, 54-assist, 18-dig effort.
Defensively, five Bengals notched double-digit kills, led by Katie Edgson's team-high 24. Carson fronted ISU at the net with a match-high seven blocks, which also ranks as a career high.
Idaho State recorded a .187 hitting mark on the night with 69 kills on 219 attacks. The Bengals also tallied 11 blocks and 87 digs.
Micah Lines and Brittney Bisaillon led Weber State with 18 kills each. The Wildcats collected 77 kills with a .242 attack percentage.
Idaho State will step out of conference play to host Utah Valley on Saturday night at Reed Gym. Opening serve is set for 7 p.m.
