Box Score
Pocatello, ID--Natalie Graham scored on a penalty kick in the 77th minute and that was all Idaho State needed in a soggy defensive slugfest against Air Force (1-5-2). The win wraps up the Idaho State Classic tournament pushing the Bengals to an overall record of 4-3-1.
The penalty kick was set up by Jenny Ford who broke through the line and harassed Air Force into a turnover in the box, and then she was taken down just inside the box. Graham took the penalty kick and sent the ball to the middle of the net past Falcon keeper Erin Wallace.
"Jenny did a great job coming off the bench giving us a spark," noted head coach Allison Gibson.
Idaho State got a scare late in the first half when keeper Maren Eves was banged up in a collision. She noticeably limped for the remainder of the game but never had to leave the game. Eves had a light load only having to make four saves for her second shutout of the season.
"Maren fought off the injuries and played really hard for us today," Gibson said. "She made some great saves and kept Air Force out of the net."
Idaho State outshot Air Force 14-7, including a 7-4 advantage on goal. Graham led the Bengals with six shots with two on goal.
The game was delayed by about 20 minutes because of a lightning delay. Rain came down for most of the first half, but lightened up and stopped in the second half.
The Bengals will now hit the road for a game at Gonzaga on September 28th.
Notes: Air Force lost both of their games in the Idaho State Classic by a 1-0 score, both times it was by a penalty kick......With the penalty kick against Air Force, Natalie Graham has scored a game winning goal in each of her four seasons at Idaho State......This second time this season the Bengals have suffered through a lightning delay. The September 14th game at Utah was delayed by 1:50.
