"We could have sold the farm after game one and I'm glad we had the heart to not do that," said head coach Chad Teichert. "I'm glad they came back and fought hard and stuck to the fundamentals to hang in there and win."

The Bengals went into the second set posting an 0-13 record when trailing after the first game, but broke their habits when they dominated in the second and third by out hitting the Wolverines with a .276 percentage in the second set and .292 percentage in the third while UVU posted a -.026 in the second and .034 in the third. Even through learning a new offensive system in the 6-2 formation it has given the Bengals an opportunity to open up their attack and utilize the experience and skill of each player on the court.

"We have people playing that are doing an amazing job," said junior Emily Waldron. "There isn't a player on the team that isn't capable of performing it."

Utah Valley was the second team to see the new offense in use and the Bengals have caught on quickly as they used the system to post win. Three Bengals recorded kills in the double digits with junior Emily Waldron and sophomore Britta Bartschi posting 11 kills each and senior Brenda Cooper with 12. Waldron and Bartschi posted above a .300 attack percentage for the match, Waldron with .348 from three errors and 23 attempts and Bartschi posting .368 with only four errors from 19 attempts.

Senior Blakely Peppinger nearly posted a double-double as she had 19 assists and nine digs.

With an upperclassman and underclassman mirroring each others solid performances, the Bengals will only make progress as they continue with the season. Senior Blakely Peppinger and freshman Karissa Legaux both recorded double-digits in assists with 19 and 17 respectively. Peppinger was one dig shy of posting a double-double. In the back line redshirt junior Paige Palmer and freshman Jaclyn Hone each posted double-digits in digs with Palmer posting 18 and Hone recording 12. Sophomore Ashlyn McDowell led the team in block assists with five.

The match up against Utah Valley was the second of the season as the Wolverines overcame Idaho State in straight sets at the Shurian Family Activity Center.

"We knew that we had lost earlier this season but as we watched game film we knew that they had gotten better, but we also knew we had gotten better since the beginning of the season," said senior right side hitter Cooper about the rematch. Cooper credits the victory at home to intensity. "We pursued everything and we stuck through it. We encouraged each other and we really fought for it."

Idaho State will use its confidence-building victory over Utah Valley as motivation when they travel to Montana to play back-to-back matches against Montana on Friday, October 17 at 7 p.m. and Montana State on Saturday, October 18 at 7 p.m.
