Greeley, CO--Northern Colorado ended the Bengals four-match winning streak even though freshman Jaclyn Hone posted her second double-double in a row and Idaho State out blocked the Bears 11 to seven. The teams played a tight 3-1 match consisting of 33 tied scores and 15 lead changes, but the Bears overcame 3-1 (25-22, 25-17, 22-25, 25-23) at the Butler-Hancock Sports Pavilion Thursday Night. Northern Colorado, who already has earned a spot in the Big Sky Conference Tournament improves to 10-4 while Idaho State falls to 4-9 in the conference.

Freshman Hone garnered 14.5 points for the Bengals with her double-double effort consisting of 13 kills and 12 digs. She also recorded a service ace and a block assist. However, Hone's 10 errors in her attack led to a .077 percentage. Sophomore Britta Bartschi had an excellent night earning the most points for Idaho State with 16.5 from 13 kills and seven block assists. Bartschi posted only six errors from 43 attacks for a .163 percentage.

The Bengal defense was led by Bartschi, sophomore Sarah Carson and redshirt junior Paige Palmer. It was Bartschi and Carson's paired blocking that was the most effective at ending points for the Bengals. Each posted seven blocks and was a major contributing factor in stopping the Northern Colorado offense. Palmer was a solid figure as a libero throwing her body to save any ball she could and posted a career-high of 27 digs for her eighth 20+ dig match. She now holds 432 digs this season improving to the eighth all-time leader in digs for a season edging out assistant coach Katie Edgson's record of 426 set in 2007.

"Overall, they did a lot of good things," said head coach Chad Teichert. "We just need to do more and take care of those things sooner."

In the first set ISU hustled on the floor, diving and scrapping for every point. Their determination kept them neck and neck with the Bears as the first set had ten tied scores and six lead changes. Late adjustments and errors were the Bengals down fall as they posted 12 kills and 11 errors for a .022 percentage. Northern Colorado made 14 kills and six errors from 47 attempts for a .170 percentage to close out the set.

Paige Palmer post career-high 27 digs.

With the first dropped set ISU began to struggle posting nine kills that were neutralized with nine errors in the second set. The Bengals were overcome 25-17 in the second set. Northern Colorado played well finding its way around the Bengal block and putting down solid angles against ISU to put them out of position. Kenzie Shreeve dominated the UNC offense as she pin-pointed her attacks for 21 kills with only eight errors from 55 attacks for a .236 percentage that had the Bengals frustrated.

In the third set the Bengals returned to their hustle style which served them well giving ISU longer rallies. Idaho State was setting solid blocks in the third set forcing Northern Colorado to see at least two to three attack attempts to simply get the ball over the net.

"In the third set we started doing a better job of blocking their outside hitters," said Teichert."

It wasn't until the Bengals began to swing away going for deep attacks that they led the score 19-17, ISU held onto the lead until Bartschi and Carson set a block against UNC's Shreeve to capture the third set 25-22.

Sideout was the theme of the fourth set as the teams saw 14 tied scores and the players inched their way up the scoreboard a point at a time. The solid hitting effort by the Bears was the contributing factor to their fourth set victory as UNC recorded 19 kills and five errors from 44 attacks for a .318 percentage, the match-high.

Idaho State will travel to Northern Arizona on Saturday, November 15 at 7 p.m. in the Rolle Activity Center. The Bengals will need to sweep the Lumberjacks by 12 points to win any sort of tiebreaker scenario.

Notes: Three players have misplaced their traveling jerseys thus Sarah Carson wore #17 instead of #6, Karissa Legaux wore #15 instead of #9 and Ashlyn McDowell wore #11 instead of #12 ... The Bengals posted five service aces to Northern Colorado's four ... ISU's best hitting percentage game in the fourth set as they posted .189 from 11 kills with four errors on 37 attacks ... Northern Arizona lost its fourth straight match against Weber State in a 3-2 effort to post a 5-9 BSC record.
