Los Angeles, CA--A solid 11-point streak by Loyola Marymount's junior Lisa Helmer's to start the second half closed out a close match up against the Bengals from which they could not recover. Idaho State fell 69-55 against the Lions in the Loyola Marymount Ayres Hotel Thanksgiving Tournament, improving LMU to 4-1 for the season as they look to defend their Tournament title.
Two Bengals scored in double-digits with Iacovita posting her second double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds, nine on defense. She was the only Lion to hit a three-pointer going 4-of-10 from the arc. She helped improve LMU's 12.5 three-point field goal percentage in the first half to 33.3 percent in the second. The Bengals started the second period off strong tying the score at 28-28 in 2:34 off a jumper from junior Oana Iacovita. ISU went on to take the lead 32-29 off a wide open jumper for Iacovita. The score went back and forth until a second half showing by Helmers closed out ISU's chances. Her run began with a jumper to post a 39-36 lead, then she followed up her shots with three three-point field goals to help take the lead to ten-points at 50-40 on the scoreboard.
Idaho State fought back the lead to just four-points off a free throw from Chelsea Pickering, her only point of the game. The Bengals only saw the free throw line in the second period, but made the most of it as they were 9-for10.
