Colorado Springs, CO--The Bengals were defeated by Air Force 4-3 Sunday afternoon. The Falcons overcame the Bengals with the same score last weekend when at Reed Gym. Air Force improves there season record to 6-5, while the Bengals fall to 1-6. The Bengals had nearly mirror image matches to last weekend with exception of the doubles and a singles match.

The Bengals began the match well winning their first doubles point as a team with victories at the number one and number two spots. Senior Marc Pijoan and freshman Danel Barrenechea defeated the sophomore Brett Rodgers and freshman Taylor Soster, 9-8 with a tie breaker score of 7-3. Pijoan and Barrenechea fell to Rodgers and Soster last weekend with a tie breaker score of 7-4. Javier Royo, a sophomore and Alex Buceta, a freshman, defeated sophomores Austin Francis and James Tomlin, 8-4, at the number two spot. A flopped image of last weekend when Buceta and Royo were defeated 8-4.

In singles, Air Force gained victories at the number two and four positions while the Bengals captured wins at the number one and three spots to take the 3-2 lead. Pijoan defeated Rodgers again in their second meeting. The first set was identical to the previous week with Pijoan taking charge at 7-5 in set. However Rodgers did manage to gain a game more off of Pijoan in the second set than their meeting last week. Pijoan defeated Rodgers 7-5, 6-2 at the number one spot. He improves his singles record to 5-2 for the season.

Freshman Barrenechea also defeated his opponent for the second time this season. Barrenechea flipped the results of his first and second sets from their last meeting. He gained his victory over James Tomlin 6-4, 6-3 at the number three spot.

The last two matches left on the court were the number five and six positions. Unfortunately, the Bengals were forced to keep travel plans and retired the number five and six spots. Air Force's Buckingham and Beaussart did win the first sets in both matches. Sophomre Jeremy Atkin fell to his opponent 6-4 in the first set. In their last meeting Buckingham also won the first set against Atkin, but was overcome in the second set. Atkin then claimed the victory in their super ten-point tie-breaker. If the matches been allowed to continue the Bengals may have seen a victory on their record due to the mirror image finishes that the Bengals had experienced in comparison to their previous meeting.

The Bengals return to action on Tuesday, February 26th at 1:30 p.m. against Utah State in Pocatello at Reed Gym.
