Pocatello, ID --- National player of the year candidate Natalie Doma became the all-time leading scorer in Big Sky history Thursday night by scoring 34 points in the Bengals 95-78 win over Sacramento State. Doma entered the game needing just 14 points to break the record formally held by Montana's Shannon Cate. Doma also collected 13 rebounds to go along with her 12-22 shooting from the floor and 10-10 from the free throw line. The win keeps the Bengals (18-8, 10-4 BSC) on pace to try and capture the number two seed in the Big Sky tournament. Idaho State remains a perfect 24-0 all-time against Sacramento State (6-20, 4-10 BSC).
The game started with Idaho State taking control early. The Bengals went on a 14-3 run to begin the game. It was started by the long range shooting of Jenna Brown who scored the first six points of the game by hitting a couple of three pointers. She would go on to score a career-high tying 15 points and hitting a career high five three point shots.
The Bengals then hit a wall and Sacramento State came charging back by going on an 18-3 run to take a 21-17 lead with 9:09 remaining in the first half. Idaho State fought back to make it a 40-38 halftime lead. The Bengals are 16-1 this season when leading at the half.
The Bengals than took over the game in the second half, led by Doma. She scored 24 of her 34 points in the second half. Idaho State pulled away late in the second half when up 77-70, went on a 13-0 run to put the game out of reach with 3:04 to play. Andrea Lightfoot scored six points in that run and finished with 13 points for the game.
Five Bengals scored in double figures. Michelle Grohs added 13 points and Devin Diehl came off the bench to score 12 points. The Hornets were led by Charday Hunt with 17 points.
The Bengals will next host Northern Arizona Saturday night at Reed Gym. The game will begin at 7:05 pm. It was originally scheduled to start at 2:05 pm, but was pushed back because Idaho State is hosting the Big Sky Indoor Track and Field Championships during the day at Holt Arena.
